About Us

Since 1990, Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity has been working to eliminate poverty housing from our area by providing responsible homeownership opportunities in partnership with working families.

  • Built or rehabbed over 70 homes in Rochester, Kasson-Mantorville, Pine Island, Stewartville and Dodge Center.
  • Projects currently started or planned in Rochester and Kasson-Mantorville
  • Hundreds of children are tucked into bed in a safe, secure home every night in homes built by the community through Habitat for Humanity.
  • Habitat for Humanity builds homes in over 90 nations worldwide.
  • Since 1976, over 1,000,000 Habitat homeownership opportunities have occurred around the globe.

So, how does it work?

  • Families work up to 500 “sweat equity” hours building their home.
  • Partner families purchase the house from Habitat with a no-profit mortgage.  The house is not “free!”  Never has been, never will be!
  • Before moving in, homeowners must complete a series of classes to learn about:
    • Indoor and Outdoor Maintenance
    • Budgeting and Credit
    • Crime Safety
    • Fire Prevention
    • Being a Good Neighbor
    • And others!

About Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity

Rochester Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope.  Rochester Area Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.  Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
